Stash Sunday – Knit One Crochet Too Ty Dy Cotton

Knit One Crochet Too is another one of my favorite companies.  I fell in love with their Ty Dy Cotton first, and later I came to love their Ty Dy Wools also.  I love the long color runs they do, and a good 75% of their colorways resonate with me in some way.  They’ve got a rainbow version of Ty Dy Cotton that has been calling my name for a long time now.  I just got to figure how to make it work on me… though really?  Rainbows work on almost anybody.

This is not rainbow colored yarn.  This was some yarn that my friend Garret got for me on my birthday a couple of years ago.  I’ve tried to work several things with the skeins I have, but the thing is?  It’s too special for me to break way from my love for it.  Does that make sense?  No pattern I found has lived up to the sentimental value of this yarn.

So, it sits in my stash until I find the perfect pattern for it.  But that’s okay, the yarn is lovely anyway.

Stash Sunday – Cherry Tree Hill Supersock Solids

I bought some Cherry Tree Hill way back before I ever even started knitting socks.  I have no clue what I was going to do with the three skeins I bought.  Now, I’m down to one, and it’s this blue baby.

It’s funny.  Michael and I are getting married at a place called Chestnut Hill.  Half the time though I call it Cherrytree Hill, simply because I’ve known Cherry Tree Hill yarns longer than I’ve known our wedding location.  Hopefully I’ll have that sorted out by the wedding.
This skein is also working towards being part of my sock yarn blanket.  It’s lovely.

Stash Sunday – Blue Ridge Yarns Kaleidoscope Superwash Sock

Another Blue Ridge Yarns handpaint.  This one is also in my sock yarn blanket.  Reds are not always my thing, but I love reds that mix with orange.  They remind me of fire, of sunsets, and flowers.

This one is also in my sock yarn blanket, which is currently hibernating, and probably will still be until the weather gets cooler.

Stash Sunday – Blue Ridge Yarns Kaleidoscope Superwash Sock

My first LYS was The Needlecraft Center, located in Davidson, NC.  It was right across the street from the college.  An 8 minute walk, if I was meandering, from my dorm room to their door.  It’s a surprise that I managed to EVER restrain myself from going there.

The Needlecraft Center introduced me to hand-painted yarns, which continues to be one of my favorite types of yarns.  Blue Ridge Yarns was one of the yarns I learned to love.

This yarn is currently engaged in a long-term project I’m working on, a sock yarn blanket.  Seems like everyone has to do one at least once in their life.

Stash Sunday – Schoppel-Wolle Crazy Zauberball

I’m fond of Zauberballs.  I like that they have long color runs, and I like that they come in fairly vibrant colors.  I’ve heard some people say that the yarn is harsher than a lot of sock yarns, but I think the trade off is the yarn wears really well.  There’s not a real concern about wearing a hole in these socks anytime soon.

I had another Zauberball that I made into a pair of entrelac socks, and I think I might look into doing it again.  This time though, I’d like the entrelac to be some sort of lace pattern.  Big-ish.  I’m still musing how I’d make that happen.

Stash Sunday – Three Irish Girls Kells Sport Merino Irish Sea

This yarn is being used right now in a design I’m working on.  It’s a prototype, and rough around the edges, but I think I’m onto something.  As with all my new techniques I try, the sample is being worked on a pair of socks, and I think it’s coming out lovely.

Irish Sea is a really subtle colorway, with great blue variations.  I like that it doesn’t have a tendency to pool when I’m working socks.  A little bit more color punch than a semi-solid, but it isn’t a high contrast yarn.

Stash Sunday – Three Irish Girls Kells Sport Merino Mojito

Mojito is meant to go with the Pansy Green, and a third green I’ll talk about later.  For one of my super secret projets.

It’s a paler and yellower green than Pansy Green, but a lovely addition to the collection.

Not much else to write about it… I don’t have very much of a story to go with this one.

Stash Sunday – Three Irish Girls O’Donnell

I know, I know.  It’s been several weeks of TIG.  What can I say?  It’s what’s in my stash.  I never thought I’d be one of those people who favored an Indie Dyer so much, but really?  Sharon knows what she’s doing.

O’Donnell was ordered to go with two different other colors I had in my stash.  I was zoning in on the end of a shawl, and I found that I was running out of two of the colors I was using.  I e-mailed Sharon explaining what colors I had, and that I wanted something that complimented them.  She suggested Siorse and O’Donnell, and I got two skeins of both.  O’Donnell went into the shawl, the other did not.  I do not regret it, but I could have easily gotten away with just using one skein of either.  So I have a lot of the brown left over.

That’s okay though… I have some plans for it.

Stash Sunday – Three Irish Girls Kells Sport Merino

The Yarn Spot has a special colorway that is native to the store called Pansy.  Pansy is lovely, but not quite the color I’d want to work a big project in.  I’m not quite sure I’d be happy with the type of pooling it would do.  BUT, Pansy has a friend, Pansy Green, that I really like.  It’s a cheerful color, full of pop and verve.

I got a bunchload of it, the first time we had it in stock.  The next time we re-ordered Pansy, it was MUCH darker, and while I like the new dye lot also, I think this one suits me more.  At the time, I was thinking of working a cardigan, and I still am.  However, when I bought the yarn I was nearly 30 lbs heavier, and well, I don’t think I’ll need as much as I got to get around me now.  Just sayin’.

Anyway, I have some ideas of combining this with two other greens I have for TIG in Kells to create some type of Irish/Shamrock themed sweater.  Details to follow, but I think it is going to have to be steeked, to get my idea the way I want it.

For now, I’ll just admire it every time I pull it out.

Stash Sunday – Yarn Love Marianne Dashwood

I don’t even remember where I got this one, though I love the base.  I think I got it at a destash, along with another colorway that I knit a pair of socks for my mother out of.  No project photos or pictures of the other yarn, sorry, it was a situation that just got away from me.

I love this color, and this yarn.  It’s on Marianne Dashwood, and it’s a very solid yarn with a good twist… nice sock yarn.  My mother has had not complaints that I know of about the socks I made for her out of the other skein.  I also love the title of the colorway… Belle, from Beauty and the Beast (my favorite Disney movie and favorite character.)  I love Belle because she knows when to stand up to Beast, and because she loves to read.  Best gift ever?  Beast gives her a library.  A library.  A library with ladders because the bookshelves are so tall.  How great is that?

I love the colors of this – brown like Belle’s hair, blue like the Beast’s eyes, yellow like Belle’s dress… it all just fits together.
